Wedding Music

Organising music for weddings requires careful planning before you commit to making the final decisions.

If you are getting married in a church, it would be the usual thing to do and have an organist and also perhaps a choir. In this case the main decisions to make are about the music for the Bridal procession and Bride and Groom’s exit pieces. Organists are very capable musicians who are used to filling the gaps in any service with music that is appropriate.

Of course the same applies to a civil wedding except that the organ will probably be replaced by either a CD or live musicians such as a string quartet, harpist or flute and guitarist. This is mainly because venues for civil weddings don’t usually have organs in their ceremony rooms.

Choosing which combination of live musicians may depend on the style of music that you wish to have played and also the mood you wish to create.

If you want a strictly classical and formal approach then the string quartet is the one to go for. A harpist may provide music at the other end of the scale providing a much more gentle mood although the repertoire may be slightly more confined to pieces that are suitable for the harp.

The third option is the flute and guitarist who would be able to play both classical and contemporary styles and be the most versatile when it comes to creating the atmosphere or mood requested by the wedding couple. There are very few pieces of music that don’t work on the flute and guitar … although the “1812 overture” may present a challenge!

The repertoire of Carillon flute and guitar duo shows the many pieces that are suitable for flute and guitar, and this aspect is an important issue when choosing music for weddings.

Carillon cover an area of around 90 minutes drive from South Birmingham.
