Carillon Music Biography of Nick and Kelly

Nick
has played in many areas of music since the age of twelve and spent much of his early teens performing in the Working Mens Clubs of South Wales and the West Country. At the age of fifteen he left school, and as a vocal guitarist had his own TV show on HTV West called ‘New Folk’. By eighteen (1975) Nick lived in Germany and had a recording contract with CBS/April Musik in Frankfurt. 

At twenty four Nick worked with the Dennis Mann Orchestra in the South West as a guitarist at Pontins and at the same time had a residency at Hollymarine playing keyboards.  Nick studied the classical guitar and has achieved both the Associate and Licentiate Diplomas. 

Nick met Kelly in 1986 and together they have worked in H M Horfield Prison, Bristol, (Nick did this for eighteen years) as Christian musicians as well as the DCF (Disabled Christian Fellowship) in Bristol. Nick and Kelly have also been Church musicians where Nick was Church Organist and Choirmaster for ten years at St. Anne’s C of E Church, West Heath, Birmingham.

At thirty seven Nick worked for the Royal Shakesphere Company in Stratford playing guitar on Don Juan, As You Like It and The Jovial Crew. In 1992 Nick and Kelly started working together as Carillon flute and guitar duo for corporate functions, including banks, office parties and military barracks as well as weddings, special birthdays and anniversaries.

Nick toured with the RSC in 1993 playing on The Jovial Crew. Nick plays piano and Church organ, both classical and electric guitars as well as the bass guitar which he played at the Wigmore Hall in London in 1997 in celebration of John Mills’ fiftieth birthday.  Nick currently teaches freelance all styles of guitar and piano as well as working as Carillon.

Kelly has played recorder and glockenspiel from the age of seven and was part of her school choir.  She began playing violin at the age of nine and became part of the school orchestra, including touring other schools. She sang in front of a record producer at the age of sixteen and by eighteen attended many auditions and singing in clubs and theatres playing in and around the Birmingham area getting recalled for talent competitions into their finals.

Kelly studied the classical guitar and has achieved both the Associate and Licentiate diplomas. She also has played bass guitar in Christian and secular bands. She met Nick in 1986 and sang in HM Horfield Prison, Bristol for fourteen years. She also sang with Nick for many denominations as Christian musicians including the DCF (Disabled Christian Fellowship) in Bristol.

Kelly played classical guitar for the Second Guitar City and performed at Birmingham’s Botanical Gardens with them. She also became part of Birmingham’s Flute Choir.  In 1992 Kelly played at Birmingham’s Town Hall for the ‘Fabulous Fauna’ and ‘The Journey’ both conducted by Andrew Peggie. This was in conjunction with Birmingham’s ‘Sound It Out’ year. Besides working as Carillon, Kelly currently teaches freelance classical, electric and bass guitar as well as flute. 

Nick & Kelly both have enhanced CRB’s.
