Counting The Cost
Wedding venues are one of the most expensive costs of a wedding day so getting the best value for money is important. Needless to say you won’t want to skimp on the necessities, but a bit of careful planning can go a long way in being able to reduce the cost.

Popular Wedding Venues
Having the reception at a hotel that is very popular for wedding receptions, has the merit of knowing that if it is popular, it is probably very good. On the other hand, with high demand usually comes higher prices so it is good to get as many quotes as possible.

The Wedding Day
Saturday has traditionally been the day to get married, but it is becoming more popular to get married on other days too. This of course has the advantage of being off-peak and likely to be less expensive. People who provide wedding services such as wedding music and musicians are also more likely to be available on less popular days of the week.

Standards
Investigate their bar/restaurant food first and also the friendliness of the staff. You may also wish to check the bar prices and the cost per bottle of wine etc. Sometimes a wedding venue that sounds good value for money may put higher prices on other items such as the drink.

The Best Value for Money Option
The way people who had very little money used to do the reception, was to get members of the family to supply the food and hire a local hall. Another less expensive option is to book a pub or restaurant to provide the wedding meal. If other customers are able to eat too, this may not cost anything apart from the cost of the food!

All Inclusive Packages may be Less Expensive
In hotels where wedding receptions are frequently held, wedding packages may be available.
If you consider all the services that are available for a wedding day, a package deal may give a significant saving. This may also include discounts for overnight accomodation for family and close friends to stay.

It is great to be able to spend lots of money on a wedding venue and have the best of everything, but remember that this is just day one!

Engagement rings have been used for centuries as a visual sign that a woman is betrothed to her man. The aristocracy used to hand their jewellery down the generations to keep it within the family. It was quite common therefore, for a man to give his loved one his mother’s engagement ring.

Engagement rings in Fiction and Fact
In fiction, Edward Cullen gives Isabella Swan (from the Twilight Saga – Eclipse) his late mother’s engagement ring. In the character, Edward was born in 1901 so this would have happened in his era.

In fact, HRH Prince William has given Kate Middleton his late mother’s engagement ring as a sign of his love for her and to keep the ring within the family.

New or Old Engagement Rings
It really depends on the family’s circumstances, background and the couple themselves. Some woman would love to wear a ring that has been given to them by her future husband and his family, it would make her feel more included within his family.

Other women might prefer a new ring chosen just for them by their future husband, or even chosen together as a couple. There are no hard or fast rules to follow, though it is usually best to talk about it as a couple first, so everyone is happy when the engagement is finally announced and friends and family will want to see the ring.

There are many books available to help to guide you through the engagement and marriage which can help to ease many stresses so your engagement or wedding plans can run smoothly and you can enjoy these precious moments together.

One of the most important day’s in a man or woman’s life is their wedding day. To marry the one they love.

Church or Civil Ceremony
In most Church denominations the vows are very traditional and have been handed down throughout the centuries through their wedding service books. As a Civil Ceremony has no religious content, the wedding vows are much more flexible.

Traditional or Modern Vows
Many couples today who get married in a Civil Ceremony are so nervous with all the plans and build up to their wedding, they would rather just repeat the vows to each other following the registrar’s indication.

Other wedding couples may want to write and recite their own words to each other to make the wedding day more memorable and especially more special to each other. This is quite acceptable in a Civil Ceremony.

What ideas could help me to create my own wedding vows?
There are many wedding books available which give plenty of ideas about the order of service including your wedding vows. Whatever you decide to do, remember to relax and enjoy your wedding day.

The following pieces are our most requested music for civil ceremonies and very suitable to walk down the aisle, sign the register and have as the Bride and Groom’s exit.

However, any piece may be chosen from our repertoire list for a civil ceremony, if it has no religious connection.

We are often asked to play special requests that are not in our repertoire and are pleased to do so if advance notice is given.

Although the traditional Wagner and Mendelssohn pieces are still requested for the entrance and exit of the wedding ceremony, couples are often choosing more contemporary pieces that have a special meaning for them.

The following is a selection of music that fits well for each part of the ceremony:

Bride’s Entrance
Cannon in D – Pachelbel
The Bridal Chorus – Wagner
(Here Comes The Bride)
Air (The Water Music) – Handel
Sonata Theme – Mozart
Plasir d’Amour – Traditional
Jesu Joy Of Man’s Desiring* – Bach
Scarborough Fair – Traditional
Have I Told You Lately – Van Morrison
True Love – Cole Porter

Signing The Register
Little Dance – Haydn
Aria – Handel
Minuet – Bach
Recuerdos de la Alhambra – Tarrega
Gymnopedie No.1 – Satie
Spanish Romance -Traditional
Cavatina – (The Deer Hunter) Myers
Ave Maria* – Gounod
Air On A G String – Bach

Greensleves – Tradition
Somewhere Over The Rainbow – (from Wizard of Oz)
Close To You – Carpenters

The Look Of Love – Bacharach/David
Wind Beneath My Wings -
Pelagias (Captain Corelli’s Mandolin)

Bride & Groom’s Exit
Wedding March – Mendelssohn
Alla Hornpipe (The Water Music) – Handel
On Wings Of Song – Mendelssohn
The Flower Duet – Delibes
It Had To Be You – Cole Porter
Love Changes Everything – Lloyd-Weber
Our Love Is Here To Stay – Gershwin

Have the most wonderful civil wedding ceremony and walk down the aisle to live music of your choice.
Carillon Flute and Guitar Duo perform a broad range of instrumental music that includes most styles and if it isn’t already in our huge repertoire, we will be happy to obtain the music and play it for you.
We are used to fitting into small areas in ceremony rooms and have been playing music for civil weddings since 1992.

At civil wedding ceremonies we normally play:

As guests arrive.
Usually about 20 minutes before the ceremony begins.

Playing for the Entrance of the Bride.
One piece that is suitable for a stately walk – the most often requested being Pachelbel’s Canon..

Music for the signing of the register.
Can be up to three or even four pieces depending on the amount of guests and photos taken.

The Bride and Groom’s Exit piece.
A happy up tempo choice – Here Comes The Sun is often requested for this part of the ceremony.

When choosing your music for a civil wedding ceremony, it is not allowed to have pieces that have a religious connection such as Ave Maria or Jesu Joy for example.
Your registrar will be able to advise you of the regulations and requirements for the wedding ceremony.
If you are interested in a quotation for your ceremony, please contact us at the email address below with the date and location of your wedding.
